An awards ceremony was held at Cobble Hill for the winners of a neighborhood-wide essay contest for local fourth and fifth graders. The students wrote about an “Older Person in Your Life who is Special and why.”
The essay winners were: Sofia Alexandra – A.Fantis, Gabriela Garcia – PS 38, Maximus Gregorian – PS 32, Roxy Pipino – PS 58, Talia Willscher – PS 29
The winners attended, along with their parents, teachers, PTA presidents, school administration and extended family (grandmothers, aunts, uncles). Most importantly, the person who inspired the essay accompanied the student author. The CHHC executive team and board members, as well as the residents who judged the essay contest, attended the ceremony to witness the students accept their prizes. Each school winner was awarded a four pack of tickets to Cobble Hill Cinema with snacks and drinks from the concession stand.
Donny Tuchman, Cobble Hill’s COO, welcomed the guests and praised the students for their outstanding work. Assemblywoman Joanne Simon and New York State Senator Daniel Squadron sent representatives to attend the ceremony and give the students recognition certificates.
