Dear extended Cobble Hill family,
This morning we received one positive test result for a resident and another for a staff member. The resident has been relocated to a covid only unit and the employee will remain home for 14 days. We were able to identify these positive cases because of our aggressive testing program through which all staff members and residents are tested weekly.
Frequent testing is integral to preventing a resurgence of covid in our facility. Because of the increase of cases throughout the country and the impact that has made on the time it takes to receive results, we just made a significant investment to purchase several state of the art testing machines so we could conduct frequent and rapid tests ourselves. While it will take some time for these machines to arrive, we believe that they will form an important part of our pandemic plan to prevent and control a second wave within our organization.
In addition to testing, our infection control program is in full stride including regular deep disinfection of surfaces, vigilant hand hygiene, PPE use, resident cohorting and symptom surveillance.
Unfortunately, these positives will delay our reopening to visitation. The Department of Health requires 28 days free of any new positives in order to reopen. We will reach out to those who had scheduled visits for next week directly. Our video visits program will continue in full force.
