Name:
Christina Santos
Job title:
Director of Therapeutic Recreation
Working at Cobble Hill for:
24 years
What do you enjoy most about your job?
My greatest satisfaction is providing the residents with fun and stimulating recreational activities to keep them productively occupied and to make them smile. Making a difference in the life of my residents brings me immense joy and satisfaction.
What positive changes in health care are you seeing due to the pandemic?
During these unprecedented times of the pandemic, the employees at Cobble Hill have worked together tirelessly to render the residents the best of care. My department has also built a stronger relationship with the families as we keep them connected via video calls and updates 2x a week to assure them that their loved ones are well. This pandemic has created a real sense of comradery among employees. The Cobble Hill community also has shown incredible support to the residents and staff by donating supplies, food, free concerts, masks, flowers, ipads, and ipods, protective equipment, and sending motivational cards to encourage us to stay strong and to keep up the good work.
What is your biggest challenge right now?
My biggest challenge right now is the need to be more creative with the recreational programs we provide in order to follow the social distance guidelines mandated by the Department of Health.
Why do you do what you do?
My passion is to serve and help others. I consider myself a very compassionate person and being able to work with this vulnerable population has been incredible for me. I take pride in being part of this organization. Cobble Hill is a great place to work. Every day I try my best to take care of our patients with much love, affection and compassion because this is what serving others is all about.
